Polish And Czech Battle Of Britain Pilots Remembered

Brussels, 28th September 2010

The 70th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain, particularly the role of Polish and Czech pilots alongside the RAF, was commemorated yesterday in the European Parliament. The event was jointly organised by ECR Group Members from Poland, The Czech Republic and the UK.

The exhibition - opened by the President of the Parliament, Mr Jerzy Buzek - depicts the Battle in an impressive display of photos, film and archives - accompanied by a scale model of a Hawker Hurricane. The display was put together by the Polish Institute of National Remembrance, the Warsaw Uprising Museum and the Czech Institute for the Study of Totalitarian Regimes, in close collaboration with the RAF Museum in Hendon.

Timothy said:

"I want to thank the organisers and I believe this event has highlighted the shared history between these three great nations. The Poles and the Czechs were allies then and remain great friends to this day. We wanted to remind the European Parliament of the crucial importance of the Battle of Britain in enabling the freedoms that we all enjoy today."
