Leeds Bradford Airport Announces Expansion

Brussels -- Tuesday 6 December, 2011

LEEDS Bradford International Airport unveiled an £11m expansion of its terminal today as it looks to dramatically increase passenger numbers.

My support for the development of the Region's airports is well known, and I am proud to have played a role in obtaining 24 hours operating status for this vital and strategic part of the Yorkshire region’s infrastructure. I am delighted by the news and I put out the following statement:

"The expansion plans unveiled by LEEDS Bradford International Airport today are great news for both cities and the wider area. Leeds and Bradford deserve a world class hub and I congratulate Chief Executive John Parkin and his team for the investment they are making to ensure the experience for air travellers is more comfortable and more secure. In these times it's important for Yorkshire to show it's open for business."

The airport will grow the departure lounge space by more than half in addition to creating more food and drink facilities and shops.

Construction work is starting immediately with the departure lounge work completed by May and the whole project completed by the summer.

Additions to the airport will also include an improved security zone, enhanced business and leisure lounge facilities, and a new covered walkway to aircraft stands.
