Brussels -- Tuesday 11th October, 2011
Today, Timothy Kirkhope MEP met with a twenty strong delegation from Leeds, a continuation of Timothy´s work highlighting business and tourism successes in Leeds.
In the first meeting of its kind Timothy met with a variety of companies and regional representatives from Marketing Leeds, Leeds Bradford Airport, BMI and UKTI, Leeds City Council, Leeds Legal, Leeds Metropolitan University and leisure businesses from the region. He said:
"It has been a successful experience enabling our local companies to link up with Brussels based multinational corporations who are eager to create openings to work in partnership with small and medium enterprises. Brussels has extensive opportunities for the promotion of Leeds and this meeting is the first step to achieve this."
Timothy enjoyed meeting with the group and is confident it will be beneficial to Yorkshire´s economy and growth. "As MEP for Yorkshire & the Humber, I strive to ensure that legislation is beneficial to my constituents and also to support local businesses forge links within the single market. The connection between Leeds and Brussels is strong with BMI operating flights between the cities three times a day. This visit will further cement the bond between Belgium and Yorkshire"
