Timothy Kirkhope: A Profile
Transcript:
I'm Timothy Kirkhope. I'm the Conservative member of the European Parliament for Yorkshire and the Humber in the UK and I'm also Leader of the British Conservatives (this is now out of date) in the Parliament and Deputy Leader of the European Conservative and Reformist Group. I've been here since 1999 and I've enjoyed every moment of my time in the Parliament so far.
Primarily, I'm here because I think it's very important indeed that the people I represent in the UK have a voice in the European Parliament. Europe is a very large entity: 27 countries, millions of people working together, trading together and looking after each other. It's a very important and challenging entity and I'm delighted that I'm able to represent the people of Yorkshire here in the Parliament.
Apart from my leadership roles here in the Parliament, I'm also very proud to serve on the Justice and Home Affairs Committee and also work with the Culture Committee on issues like Sport, the Internet and Television - other matters of that kind, which are of such interest to the people that I represent.
