KIRKHOPE ELECTED LEADER OF CONSERVATIVE MEPs

Conservative MEPs have elected Timothy Kirkhope as their new Leader.

Mr Kirkhope has been an MEP since 1999, and was a Member of Parliament for 10 years before that. Speaking after his election, Mr Kirkhope said:

"I am honoured to be elected Leader of the Conservatives in the European Parliament. Conservative MEPs are all very experienced and able individuals and I intend to use their talents to the full.

The entire Conservative delegation will campaign for Conservative principles and policies in the European Union.

One key part of our focus over the coming months will be to work for the election of a Conservative Government under Michael Howard."

Sir Robert Atkins MEP was re-elected as Deputy Leader, Roger Helmer MEP was elected as Treasurer, while Richard Ashworth MEP and David Sumberg MEP were elected to the Bureau.
