Conservatives insist that EU action must be taken at the European Council in Brussels tomorrow
Strasbourg, -- Today the Conservative leader in the European Parliament, Timothy Kirkhope MEP, demanded that the Prime Minister makes a stand against the Iranian regime by urging EU partners to withdraw their ambassadors to Iran for consultations at home in protest at the Neo-Nazi Summit held in Tehran on the 11th and 12th December.
He said: "The Iranian regime hosted individuals and organisations from sixty countries with the sole purpose of endorsing and reawakening Nazism, denying the Holocaust and attacking Israel.
This outrageous action can not be ignored by the European Union and deserves the most vehement of the protests. I would therefore like to know what measures the Labour government will take on this and I strongly urge the UK and other EU states to recall their Ambassadors in protest from Tehran for consultations with their national governments."
Conservative Foreign Affairs Spokesman, Dr Charles Tannock MEP, added: "This conference highlights the reason why a nuclear armed Iran would pose a threat to the existence of the democratic state of Israel. It is why Iran must be held to its commitments under the Non-Proliferation Treaty and stop enriching uranium."
