Launch of Movement for European Reform

Tuesday 5 March 2007

The Movement for European Reform (MER) was launched on 5 March 2007, involving politicians, scholars, business leaders and students from many countries across Europe. With over 300 participants, it was a great success and much productive and heated debate took place on a number of issues. I was happy to see so many people actively engaged in shaping the vision of the kind of Europe we want to live in. Here you can find more information on the conference, including a small photo gallery.

What is MER?

Movement for European Reform was founded last year by the Czech Civic Democratic Party and the British Conservative Party as a vehicle to generate new thinking and bring fresh perspectives to a Union that many believe needs new direction and new leadership. It focuses on three main issues:
- Challenge of Competitiveness in a Globalised World

- Threat of Global Climate Change

- Tackling Global Poverty
