Duty Free Confusion Almost at An End
Tuesday 8 July, 2008
Yorkshire and the Humber MEP Timothy Kirkhope and other colleagues met Transport Commissioner Antonio Tajani in order to raise the question of Duty Free provisions in Airports. The meeting was very satisfactory as Commissioner Tajani pledged to ensure that transit passengers from North America will no longer face confiscation of duty free liquids, aerosols and gels (LAGs) on connecting EU flights from September or October this year.
The Conservative's EU Transport Spokesman, Mr Kirkhope said:
"The problem has been with the recognition of agreements between the EU and third countries. If they are being constantly being re-negotiated the passenger ends being the biggest loser. When the sytem fails air travellers end up confused and frustrated. I am glad that real progress is being made on this issue and I applaud Commissioner Tajani's personal intervention to speed up the process."
