Conservative MEPs Welcome the Dutch Presidency Announcement of a European Police Network for Missing Children Experts

Wednesday, 25 May, 2016

Today, International Missing Children’s Day, a new European police network for missing children experts was announced by the Netherlands EU Presidency. This initiative is designed to improve cross-border cooperation and find missing children quickly.

The new network provides a platform for police experts on child alerts and missing children. It provides experts access to up-to-date information and the ability to quickly contact, or consult colleagues across Europe, in cases of missing children. This forum for better European cooperation will help to save the lives of more missing children.

Timothy Kirkhope MEP, Conservative Home Affairs spokesman in the European Parliament, said: "Every year thousands of people go missing involuntarily in the EU. Such cases often involve several EU countries, so sharing information across borders is vital to identify and find missing persons as quickly as possible. We welcome this initiative that will aid quick and reliable information sharing, help European authorities to respond rapidly and, most importantly, save lives".
