Timothy Kirkhope MEP Yorkshire and Humber Visits Tunstall Healthcare

Tunstall welcomed Yorkshire and Humber MEP Timothy Kirkhope to their headquarters in Whitley Lodge last week to see first-hand how Connected Care can make a big difference to people’s lives.

With a keen interest in rural areas and data protection, Mr Kirkhope visited Tunstall Response, one of the UK’s largest telecare and telehealth monitoring centres, to see the amazing impact their services have on people’s lives. The centre deals with up to 5,000 calls a day, from a variety of people including those who have had an accident in the home such as a trip or fall, smelt smoke or gas, heard an unwelcome noise outside, received a suspicious or unexpected visitor at the door or just need to hear a friendly voice.

Mr Kirkhope also visited Tunstall Healthcare Group’s global Innovations Centre which provides a showcase to demonstrate how technology enabled care integrates into people’s lives by creating a contemporary and comfortable space for consultation, collaboration and creation. Featuring a range of zones including integrated care, the connected home, the development room, an app bar and Connected health, Mr Kirkhope was particularly impressed by the modern, touchscreen IP phones which could host a number of apps.

I visited Tunstall around 20 years ago and I must say I am impressed at how technology has moved on. As we enter the digital world, the use of data must be sensibly planned, particularly if it involves older or vulnerable people and my visit to Tunstall demonstrated how this is being carefully handled and indeed, how it will develop in the future. It’s important to do whatever we can, to make sure everyone is able to use the latest technologies to suit their needs.
